Last week, Seventeen Magazine hosted a special NY screening of Hayden Panettiere's latest movie, 'I Love You Beth Cooper.' The film's star showed up in a white one-shoulder dress with pleating detail.

Lately, Hayden has been wearing close-fitting minidresses to her public events so the loose fit of this dress is a pleasant surprise.

However, this loose fit coupled with her overdone hair and make-up leave Hayden looking too mature and overwhelmed by the fabric.

The black shoes look heavy and a strappy sandal in a neutral or metallic color may have been a better choice. Speaking of accessories, her ivory satin clutch looks out of place next to the pristine white of her dress.

Attending an event hosted by a magazine for young women to promote a summer comedy means Hayden was free to try a look that was young and fun instead of one that's overdone and too serious. 

Hayden could have taken notes from style star Cameron Diaz who, just two weeks earlier, attended the world premiere of 'My Sister's Keeper.'

Cameron's dress was similar to Hayden's in its style and detail, but the close fit and more elegant pleating of Cameron's dress was flattering, interesting, and age-appropriate.

Her hair was left in beachy waves and her glossy red lips were perfect for a summer night. The gold strappy sandals work perfectly as they don't take away from the detail of the dress. Accessorizing with only a think gold bracelet, this look is a perfect example of how simple can be stunning.
